His performances are reflective in nature, with the listeners often finding themselves as a catalyst in the song. Kirbys universal lyrics are on the surface specific and at the same time deeply layered, where the audience can find a common and personal point of relation and entry into the song. His soulful voice is both unique and soothing, colored with weathered age and experience. In 2022, Brent was voted Best Folk by the Cleveland Music Awards and nominated for Best Songwriter by the Cleveland Scene. Kirby was especially proud of the Best Folk award, saying I try hard to be a good example, and treat people with respect. Jim Ballard is a life-long musician and native of Akron Ohio. He is a talented writer and performer and has recorded 18 albums of original music and has composed scores for videos, soundtracks, and jingles. In addition to being a much in demand solo performer he leads the band Jim Ballard and The Strangs. Jim is the owner of Skylyne Recording Studio in Akron and is the primary force behind the annual Vinestock Music and Arts festival which showcases both regional artisans and musicians.In August to correspond with the Solidarity Series a NEW monthly Sunday Potluck will be launched at the Treelawn Social Club. Many may recall the Sunday Potluck which took place for years at the Barking Spider. We hope to rekindle the energy and spirit of fellowship and camaraderie of those days with this new community meal. Doors open at 6.
